random notes

Actual update (at least on the girls) tomorrow after the 4 month appointment.
More excited today for what just came in the mail.

Sweet! I had mentioned to a friend how Ziggy Marley would be doing a small show and signing CDs in her area (I had missed the one around me) and she was nice enough, and as her gift to the girls, to buy them each his kid's CD and have them autographed.

Besides a few yells, they slept from 9:30 until 7:30. Now to figure out how I can do that. Tonight's attempt is to put the monitor outside our bedroom so I don't hear anything unless it's someone really, really ticked off. Lucky for hubby though (who kindly sleeps in our guest room so his snoring doesn't further complicate my inability to fall asleep) - when I went to bed around 10pm he was still wide awake and making popcorn so who knows when he fell asleep.

So last weekend we ran over to a Thai restaurant with my brother and his girlfriend. I can handle some spice, not like hubby though, so I ordered my dish "mild" figuring better to start off on that end. Hubby went medium - said he try the full spiced version next time. Anyway, while mine was pretty tame, was also really good. As I'm not one for much cooking though, I don't know offhand many recipes. So if anyone has one they recommend (vs. me just googling random ones) Been trying more "spiced" dishes lately - call it a kick. Although it's mostly limited to freezer meals and such since lack of time. Or hubby throwing in random spices into stuff. It's probably that finally my tastebuds are back after months of eating bland cereal due to nausea. If and when time allows, hubby likes the idea now of trying a new place (aka type of cuisine) when we go out to eat. I'm all for that - mabye it'll get him off his love for fast food. One can wish.

I'd like to think I'd prefer not drinking caffeine. But in all reality, especially not sleeping well, that's probably not going to happen. But I'm a bit stuck in that category: lately, the carbonation in soda has been tearing up my stomach and whiel I prefer latte / flavored type coffee drinks, I really can't justify spending $3-4 a day on that stuff. So I'm either going to get used to drinking straight coffee, or use our espresso machine (for once!!) Just seems a lot of cleaning and work for one drink a day. There you go - I'll just have 2 or 3 and that'll make it worth it, right?

And despite their best efforts, the little annoying Japanese beetles haven't (yet) killed off my hibiscus.

  1. cabonated sodas are loaded with caffene - and sugar which are worse for sleeplessness than straight coffee. drink natural fruit juices, and caffene free teas (hot or iced) lay off processed sugars, you may find you sleep better.
